President's Message April 2026

Spring Update from the President

With the Masters in the rearview mirror and daylight now abundant, golf interest normally spikes this time of year as we head into a hopeful spring.

Unfortunately, the course is still under aerification, so we'll have sandy, punched greens and fairways for a while. They will heal — West Seattle's greens will undoubtedly be in fine condition for peak season. Maintenance reports they are currently rolling and progressively cutting the greens shorter, so we are headed in the right direction.

Note that greens #1, #7, and #8 got a head start with an earlier punch, as these were more impacted by soil saturation. Speaking of which, several fairway drainage projects are still ongoing — noticeably on #2, #5, #8, #9 (which all take on a lot of Camp Long's water), #14, and #18. There may be more, but the bottom line is our grounds crew is trying to stay ahead of problems to give us a more playable course year-round.

A tip of the Fox logo cap to the winners in the Winter Series. These events usually occur under challenging conditions with ball-in-hand, which is why they feature less traditional formats (One Man Scramble, Three Club, Team events). Going forward, more of the tournaments will be real golf with GHIN postings — one exception being the upcoming Two Man Scramble on May 3rd. LiveTourney has all the results.

One note on the schedule: we are adding a mid-November tournament that will probably be a stressful, difficult, lengthy battle against the course, designed to make pars feel like birdies. This is not the Devil's Nassau, but prepare to suffer nonetheless.
